Migrating from Universal Analytics to GA4.

It's been well documented that GA4 would eventually replace Universal Analytics.

We now know that all clients need to be moved over to GA4 by 1 July 2023.

Sunsetting Universal Analytics.

From 1 July 2023, Universal Analytics will stop processing or collecting new data. Instead, new data will flow into Google Analytics 4 (GA4). If you haven't got a GA4 property set up by then, you won't be able to collect any new website data.

From 1 July 2023, you will still be able to access your processed data from your Universal Analytics account for at least six months but you won't be able to migrate that data into your new GA4 account.

In the background, we've been preparing for this and are ready to help make this changeover as simple for you as possible.

Why think about this now?

If you rely on data to make decisions that affect your business, we recommend you have a GA4 property set up by 30 June 2022 at the very latest. If you have a GA4 property set up by 1 July 2022, by the time Universal Analytics is 'sunsetted' (1 July 2023) you'll already have a year's worth of data already stored in your account.

Put simply, the sooner you switch over from Universal Analytics to GA4, the more data you'll have in your account on 1 July 2023.

Basic migration.

  • Setting up your GA4 profile
  • Creating a Google Tag Manager profile (if you haven’t got one already)
  • Set up GA4 in your Google Tag Manager
  • A new tracking script added to your website
  • Updated GA4 dashboard in MODX
  • Upgrade to the latest version of MODX

Advanced migration*

(From 3 hours £225 +VAT)

For clients who use analytics in a more bespoke way.

  • Everything from our basic integration
  • Connecting up your Data Studio reports
  • Reconfiguring Goals, Events and Conversions
  • Review and redevelop custom events pushed to Google through Javascript
  • Identify fixes and upgrades to make sure your site fits the new GA4 standard

*We'll have a discussion about the tasks that would be needed on a case-by-case basis so we can give you a more accurate costing.
