We were really excited to start work on the Future Fit Training website, as it was set to be one of our most challenging websites yet. The sheer size and scale of the site, combined with being run on an older version of MODX, meant that a lot of thought and consideration had to go in to both the design and development process. Future Fit provide training for health and fitness professionals, and the site hosts a wealth of information in 3 key areas; Personal Training, Nutrition and Pilates. Each "school" had an intense structure, and our main focus was ensuring the user could easily navigate around to find relevant information, as well allowing a constant and easy method for them to request a prospectus and price list.

Back to the drawing board

At the start of the project, the client informed us that they had already put together some wireframe concepts. When we went through these though, it quickly became clear that several improvements could be made. Although they were a definite improvement on the existing site, the header, sub-navigation, key pages and call-to-action areas were quite cluttered and repetitive - all leading to a confusing and less enjoyable user experience.

We wanted to show Future Fit how we thought the new site could be improved, so we took 3 pages of the site, and presented them with 2 designs for each page. The first was based on their provided wireframes and the second was the "GEL Studios" take on things. Whilst staying faithful to desired structure of the site, we used our experience and knowledge to re-design the Future Fit pages so that they created a much more enjoyable user experience.

We always aim to get a "wow" at first sight, and this is precisely what we received when the Future Fit marketing team first saw our new and improved interpretation. From then on, we worked together to create designs that maintained this new approach, making for a very enjoyable and satisfying design process. A quote from Rachel Fuller.

"Only last night we launched our new Future Fit website and already the feedback is great and the business is delighted! The brief was to re-skin the existing site, but what we actually received from GEL Studios was a CMS upgrade, new user experience, full consultancy service and a new modern look and feel! All that and we've already seen an increase in our SERP score. It's not just the website though that looks great - the team involved, Graeme and Carly were hugely knowledgeable, patient (beyond belief) and great fun. It's been a pleasure to work with them and they will most definitely be my first choice for any future web work!"
