Swindon Culture Collective.

Swindon Culture Collective is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company created to support and champion Swindon’s cultural and creative sector. Bringing together artists, organisations, landlords and community groups, the Collective exists to nurture local talent, transform underused spaces and create new opportunities for culture to thrive across the town.

GEL Studios were commissioned to develop a distinctive brand identity and website that could bring the Collective’s ambition to life. The platform needed to feel confident, inclusive and creative, while remaining flexible enough to support and elevate the many voices and organisations it exists to represent.

Responsive website design for Swindon Culture Collective

A brand and digital experience designed not to lead the conversation, but to create space for it to grow.

Swindon Culture Collective needed a a brand identity that felt bold and recognisable, without overpowering the people, projects and partners it sits alongside. The brand had to work in harmony with other cultural organisations, acting as a supporter and amplifier rather than a dominant presence. It needed to connect with a wide range of audiences - from artists and community groups to landlords and cultural partners - while supporting ongoing initiatives such as Swindon’s City of Culture bid.

The brand identity centres on a bold typographic logo, with an abstract shape framing the word “culture” to emphasise the Collective’s core mission. By opting for a primarily type-led approach, the identity remains strong and confident without becoming visually dominant.

A vibrant yet considered colour palette - pink, yellow, blue and green - brings warmth, inclusivity and creative energy into the system. Each colour can be used flexibly, allowing the Collective to adapt the logo and brand presence depending on the tone, context or organisation being supported.

Creating a central hub for Swindon's creative sector.

Digitally, the website acts as a central hub for Swindon’s creative sector, supporting engagement, collaboration and long-term growth. It plays an active role in amplifying the town’s cultural ambition, including its journey to becoming one of the final contenders for UK City of Culture.

The website design is a natural extension of the identity. Abstract coloured shapes are used throughout to highlight key words and phrases, creating hierarchy and visual rhythm as users scroll. Large, impactful imagery showcases Swindon’s people, spaces and cultural life, grounding the platform in place and community.

As a WordPress build, the site provides the Collective with a flexible, easy-to-manage platform that supports ongoing content growth, search visibility and accessibility. Clearly labelled sections and a considered content structure ensure users can quickly find what they need, whether they’re exploring membership, learning about supported initiatives or staying informed on the City of Culture bid.
